Safe Street Rebel is a hub for direct action fighting car dominance, car dependence, and the carceral & petrostate in San Francisco.
The group started out in 2021 organizing weekly protests after car traffic returned to the Great Highway, which is now on the path to becoming permanently car-free.
Since then, SSR has done regular guerrilla infrastructure installations, street theater actions like Just a Minute on Valencia, community slow rides, and viral advocacy campaigns like ConeSF that brought international attention to robotaxis by way of traffic cones.
SSR is a non-hierarchical, non-violent direct action group whose core values are about making frequent public transit and car-free spaces available for all.
