Safe Street Rebel 3rd Anniversary Slow Ride
Join us for a slow ride celebrating the 3rd Anniversary of Safe Street Rebel!
We're celebrating 3 years of organizing for a better city, fighting for what is right, and making life-long friends.
Safe Street Rebel first began with weekly slow ride protests on the Great Highway- it’s how a lot of us know each other, and it’s a space we all know & love. The slow rides helped keep the issue in the spotlight and they showed the city & its leadership that a car-free Great Highway is worth fighting for. And for many of us, it was our first experience building people power that helped shape what this community is today.
Come join us no matter how long you've been involved; this is a celebration of the past and the future. A better city won't exist without a fight!
Start Location: Car Free JFK, across from the Conservatory of Flowers
Meetup: 5:30 PM
Rollout: 6 PM
Ride duration: 1.5 - 2 hours
Route: Ride With GPS
The ride will start on JFK Promenade across from the Conservatory of Flowers, we will ride at a leisure pace along JFK then take transverse to overlook drive. This is where the Outside Lands deviation will occur avoiding Middle Dr where we will take the new paved path down to MLK(warning its steep). From there we will take MLK to Great Highway(Soon to be Ocean Beach Park). From there we will ride along the Great Highway to remember what we have fought for and who we will continue to fight for far into the future.
This ride is accessible via the 5, 7, 33 and 44. It is also accessible by Bay Wheels. The meeting point on JFK Promenade is easily accessible via bike from all over the city. This ride takes place during Outside Lands so keep in mind the park will be crowded and we will have to potentially take unforeseen deviations. Outside lands road closures in the park can be seen here https://sfoutsidelands.com/assets/ol24_nonshow_bike_map.pdf.

Reminders
Bring:
- Water
- Snacks(and food to share if you would like!)
- A warm layer if it gets cold
- Sun protection
- Rain gear if it might rain
Considering The Weather
We'll ride this event rain or shine. If the forecast is calling for severe weather that we think may lead to unsafe conditions then we'll cancel. We'll try our best to cancel 72 hours in advance based on the forecast but of course we may cancel with shorter notice in the event of unsafe conditions. In the event of rain, please remember:
- Go slower and remember it will take a further distance to come to a complete stop. You do not have the same braking traction in the rain.
- Give other riders and road users extra space.
- Bring rain gear! Riding in the rain can be a lot of fun. Installing fenders on your bike can help as can wearing waterproof footwear, rain pants, rain jacket or rain cape, and even weatherproof gloves and socks!
