Vigil and Protest: Stanyan and Parnassus

Vigil and Protest: Stanyan and Parnassus
A driver killed our neighbor here, October 22, 2024

Please join us Thursday, October 24 at 5:30pm to hold vigil for the latest victim of traffic violence in San Francisco, and to demand the City fix our dangerous, broken streets. We will meet at the intersection of Stanyan and Parnassus in Cole Valley. The site is accessible by transit via the 6, 43, N, 7, and 37 routes. Face masks are encouraged for the sake of our immunocompromised friends.

At 8:50am Tuesday, October 22, a truck driver headed to the construction site at UCSF Parnassus struck and killed a 70 year old man. This was the 20th pedestrian killed by traffic violence in San Francisco in 2024. According to the City's Vision Zero policy - introduced by then-Supervisor London Breed in 2014 - this was the year by which infrastructure improvements, city programs, and interagency coordination were supposed to deliver zero traffic deaths. Instead, the City has made exactly zero progress in ten years.

On Thursday evening we will hold space for the victim, show the neighbors that people care about them and their safety, and talk to them about how to demand better, safer infrastructure here and citywide. We want everyone - pedestrians, bicyclists, transit riders, and drivers - to get where they're going safely, all the time.
